Cisco Nexus 7000
July 1, 2008 -- We were fortunate enough
to get hands on with the new
Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switch as a demo. The chassis
is massive and required a few people to unload. but the
Nexus OS is so
easy to use, we had a monkey configure it for us.
Although we
haven't completely tested the performance, our monkey friend
managed to stick an entire banana in a 10gig port. We also
found that the outer shell was extremely resistant to almost
everything that she managed
to fling its way.
Announced January, 28, 2008, "this
Cisco Nexus Family of switches for data centers provide the
network foundation needed to deliver on the Cisco Data
Center 3.0 vision.
As Cisco's flagship switching platform, the Cisco Nexus 7000
Series is a modular switching system designed to
deliver 10
Gigabit Ethernet and unified fabric in the data center. This
new platform delivers exceptional scalability, continuous
operation, and transport flexibility. It is primarily
designed for the core and aggregation layers of the data
center but may also make sense in certain access layer
implementations."
Unfortunately, our boss was so impressed that he is considering
replacing us with teams of inexpensive Cisco certified console
monkeys in the near future.
